Wendell Davis was appointed as Director of Public Safety for the City of Orangeburg in November of 1993 after serving in various capacities with the Aiken Department of Public Safety. He holds a Bachelor of Arts undergraduate degree from Newberry College and a Masters of Arts in Organizational Management from the University of Phoenix. One of the primary goals of Chief Davis upon his appointment as Director was securing national accreditation status through the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. He credits CALEA accreditation as being key to ensuring that law enforcement agencies deliver the most professional service possible to their communities and that law enforcement officials are recognized as professionals in the community. Chief Davis is very active in the law enforcement community throughout the State of South Carolina. He serves as Vice President for the South Carolina Law Enforcement Association; Executive Advisory Board Member of the Law Enforcement Coordinating Council for the US Attorney’s Office in South Carolina; Board Member of the South Carolina Department of Public Safety Coordinating Council; and has served as an Assessor for the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. He remains extremely committed to the community oriented policing philosophy and promotes individual and collective problem solving among the officers of the department. He has also been extremely active in the Orangeburg community and has served on many local boards during his tenure. He is a Paul Harris Fellow with Rotary International and Past-President of the Rotary Club of Orangeburg-Morning.
